Putting rangers back into gvg.
Ya. We had one thing going for us in gvg. That was the lovely cripple poison ranger.
Now since it got nerfed I've seen 90% less rangers in gvg. This is horrid for us.
I'm creating a thread to help us get back into regular gvg builds.
Without using skills from factions, I'm trying to build a ranger that is as equally as good as a cripple poison ranger.
Obviously he won't be a damage ranger. One ranger spiking is pointless.
I don't like beastmastery, because it takes up so much of your skillbar and the pet AI is crappy.
I like skills like choking gas and incendiary arrows, although they last really short. Choking gas I would choose over incendiary arrows just because it spreads to other targets and is NOT an elite.
Apply poison is still good. But that does virtually nothing with a good monk.
A pure interrupter is no good. It affects one target only. And that's if your a good enough interrupter to do the job.
The cripple poison ranger affected all the foes on the opposing team.
It was a brilliant build. A nightmare for the other team regardless of proffessions, armour and such.
That's what I'm looking for. I'm looking to secondary professions to finish this build though because the ranger skills just don't have all the things I'm looking for.
If you have any ideas or build suggestions please post away!
Rangers ftw!

Theres a few secondary professions that can help u out. If your a R/E you can use ward against foes if warriors close in on you. Then u can cripple them and run a little back and have other warriors finish them off. If your a R/N you can be using pin down and apply poison and using the elite skill Tainted Flesh to make someone who attacks u diseased. Back up with Apply Poison and use pin down so hes crippled, Poisoned, and diseased. Great build. If your a R/Mo which is a good skill use the two reccommended skills Pin Down and Apply poison and go all smite as monk. Have the elite skill Shield Of Judgement so that warriors who attack you will be knocked down every time they hit you. Cripple them and poison them and they will go after you and before you use those two skills use Shield of Judgement so he will get to you and not notice you used Shield Of Judgement leading to his demise.

So are you planning on using 'pin down' to cripple them? SoJ is elite, and if you're planning on crippling wide scale, like you would be expected, then you would have to use Crippling Shot, which is also elite. I don't see Cripple/Smite going well together.

CrippShot Ranger is not dead yet. You can still get a fairly effective cripple with the updated Crippling Shot, though it's not as spammable with the 15 energy cost. It's still one of the most useful GvG skills as an easy way to cripple someone.
Long Live CrippShot!

Melee my man.
My guild often runs Melee rangers.
Touch Necros
Hammer/Sword Beastmasters
But their ony really good in offensive preassure builds.
They outdamage warriors but can't take the hits like them so you need good monks.

I thought Cripling Ranger was dead after the nerf too, but it isnt!
The secret to making Cripling Ranger now is 16 Expertise, 12 Marks and 7 Wilderness.

I dont think u understand. Pin Down would help out alot to track someone and using Shield Of Judgement will knock them down and they will still be crippled. If u used Crippling shot u can use shield but if u use pin down and they fall prey to your shield they will try to run giving the warriors a chance to finish him off.

But unfortunately Pin Down has a very long recharge, which means you'd only really be able to keep on person crippled at a time. SoJ only works if people attack you, and Ranger's aren't on the top of the list to be attacked.

No way that will work.
Oath shot is 10 energy + 15 energy for pin down.
Even with expertise that's a ton of energy to spare.
I would go with crippling shot. Even the nerfed version is better than that.
I'm off to experiment with touch rangers and bunny thumpers.

Cripple Ranger Builds are based on the skill Cripple shot. It's a quick recharge skill that cripples (duh) your target. Because it recharges quickly you can just tab through your targets and cripple them one by one. It used to be that Cripple shot was cheaper energy wise, so this build was rampant, since the skill costs a bit more now, it requires a bit more thought while playing it. The idea being, you keep the opposing team crippled and unable to move about as well, which means your warriors can catch them quicker. Because the basic build only requires one skill, Cripple Shot Rangers often fill more than one roll in a battle.

Although I've never really tried it out in PvP, I tend to find great success with a Practiced Stance + Choking Gas build if I am to interupt. Throw in an increased attack skill (i.e. tiger's fury or lightning reflexes) and you can cause casters a lot of grief, especially if they are standing close to eachother. While this does pretty much cancel out the possibilty of poisoning, since this build keeps the choking gas prep constantly up and practiced stance takes up the elite, but hunter's shot could work well as a replacement.
I find that energy is rarely a problem with this build, but damage is pitifully low. With this in mind, I have still found great success using this in caster heavy areas in PvE.
